Thanks so much for this!

I see a lot of "Never do anything risky", but very rarely "If you are to do the risky thing, here's the safest way to do it". Sometimes the latter can be really important.

Also had similarly bad experiences with the NHS lately - I recently had to go to a hospital while I was barely able to breath, and was told to sit in an ice-cold emergency room for 6 hours with a canula in my hand, that they never ended up taking any readings from.

My actual interaction with the doctor was about 10 minutes long lol

Wow. I've never seen somebody write about this. Knowing that there's certainly must be articles out there.

I believe it was around my mid-thirties where I considered doing this to myself. I was gathering 🪡 sutures, supplies and materials. An internet chat friend talk me out of it. And I also reasoned with myself that I would probably screw things up and bleed profusely. And then need to go to the emergency room. Where I would surely be treated medically, and when cleared sent to the psych ward. So I backed out.

I'm not approving or disapproving here. But I believe, as in my case, that the dysphoria and the feelings of needing to get things moving along can be so intense that we take matters into our own hands.

I only skimmed here and will consider finishing the article. But it's a little gory and triggering for me right now. But thank you for sharing it.
